A Public Benefit Corporation, on purpose
GovPossible is a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC). That’s a deliberate legal choice that obligates us to weigh our public mission alongside profit — not chase margin at the expense of the communities we serve.
For the towns we work with, that structure is a promise: we’re not built to be flipped, squeezed, or steered away from the small municipalities that are easy to ignore. We’re here to keep serving the 90% of municipalities with fewer than 25,000 residents, and to be with you for the long haul.
Why we started
Our founder spent nearly two decades working alongside municipalities — helping roughly a dozen of them select and implement ERP software systems. He saw some decent products and some genuinely terrible ones. But almost every project ended the same way: staff exhausted, budgets stretched, and a nagging feeling of “we did all that work to get to this point?”
A few hard truths kept surfacing, and they became the principles GovPossible is built on:
Small municipalities need good software. Nine in ten municipalities have fewer than 25,000 residents. They don’t have the budget to integrate best-of-breed systems or maintain expensive local infrastructure — yet that’s exactly what most vendors ask of them.
It should be easy to use. Creating a purchase order shouldn’t take a day of training. Switching systems shouldn’t be a nightmare. If your team only touches a module once a month, it should still feel obvious when they come back to it.
It should be easy to implement. We’ve seen go-lives drag past six months — per module. We’d rather work closely and intensively with you to get set up around the way you actually work, and get you live without the marathon.
Data migration is our job, not yours. Somewhere along the way, vendors started handing departments a spreadsheet and calling data migration “your responsibility.” Last we checked, “data scientist” wasn’t in your job description. We do the dirty work.
Software should improve your situation, not just change your platform. Too many municipalities spend two years and a small fortune migrating, only to land on a newer system that’s barely better than the old one. Good software should offer an opinionated, best-practices way to measure and improve the work — and encourage transparency and efficiency for staff and residents alike.
Software should enable the future, not just audit the past. Most municipal systems can barely forecast beyond last year’s budget. We think your software should put decades of data to work, so you can manage proactively instead of reacting to every change from the outside.

No-fuss implementation. Keep doing your job while we do ours. We handle the setup and the data migration, then hand it to you to review and approve.
No surprises on price. Around here, “change order” is a dirty word. GovPossible is fully web-based — if you have a computer with Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox, you’re ready. We even provide the card readers and help you set up receipt printing.
