Software Update: Business Type Input Fields

Every community asks businesses for slightly different information, and the details you need from a restaurant aren’t the same ones you need from a contractor or a home-based business. You can now define business types in the ERP and give each one its own set of custom input fields — text entries, dropdowns, dates, or document uploads — without waiting on a software change. Each field can be turned on independently for new applications and renewals, marked visible or required, and given a short description that explains to the applicant exactly what you’re asking for.

Those fields flow straight through to the community portal, so applicants see them while they’re filling out a new business license application — not in a follow-up phone call or email a week later. Fields appear in the appropriate step of the application wizard alongside the standard business details, and any documents you’ve requested show up on the Uploads step with your instructions right underneath. Uploaded files are automatically scanned for viruses before they’re attached, and the applicant sees a clear confirmation once a file is cleared. Businesses can also review and update these same details later from their business page on the portal.

The practical benefit is fewer incomplete applications. When the right questions are asked up front, and the supporting documents arrive with the application instead of after it, your staff spends less time chasing missing paperwork and applicants get an answer sooner. And because you control the fields yourself, you can adjust what you collect as your ordinances and internal processes change.
